The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
