The President Calls Loved Ones of Injured Military Personnel to the Presidential Residence

President Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.

He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Devastating Incident

Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.

Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.

Memorials across the state have been held in their memory.

Presidential Call

The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”

Community Support

Community members gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to support law enforcement in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to Beckstrom

“Sarah was the individual that instructors wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” the principal, the head of her former high school, stated to the media. “She was caring, caring and always eager to support those in need.”

Service plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Steps and Government Revisions

Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The event led the government to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of the Airman

The airman, a native of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on a news program.

Attorney general Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit his relatives.

Legacy of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with honor, according to the state guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
