Soccer Analyst Chris Sutton Takes On Singer Murs in Premier League Forecasts

Arsenal's 10-game winning run came to an end by Sunderland prior to the global break, but can the English top division frontrunners bounce back against north London rivals Spurs this Sunday?

"{I feel like Arsenal are miles ahead of Tottenham currently but Spurs manager Thomas Frank will have a strategy for this match," remarked soccer specialist Chris Sutton.

"Frank will attempt to neutralize Arsenal, who have not always been at their scintillating best this campaign - but Mikel Arteta's team usually still manage to win."

The analyst is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this season, against artificial intelligence, fans and a variety of guests.

In week 12, he faces performer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United fan.

Murs' new record, Knees Up, is available on Friday.

Soccer and Family Life

Murs is a skilled footballer as well as a successful artist and has been a featured player of multiple charity football games down the years - but he is not intending a serious return as a footballer.

"{I recently played in a charity match the other night for a friend of mine," he explained. "The side was trailing 3-1 when I came off in the 60th minute, and they proceeded to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you will!

"I continue to love football, but I hurt my joint a few years ago and it even now hasn't fully recovered. I wish I could play more but the uncertainty of the game means it's too dangerous for me in my career to do it seriously again.

"Additionally I am 41 now, and we are not all Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very happy not playing football and I am gearing up for the moment that my daughter or son chooses to play instead."

The singer and his wife his partner have two children, their daughter and Albert, and he is prepared to emulate his dad by taking on the role of their coach.

"I will not force football on our children but I've already told my wife that if they happen to get the bug for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will probably be coaching their weekend soccer team," he said.

"I watched my nephews play a lot, and I really got into it, and I obviously owned a football club for a period too.

"My father coached with us when I was a kid, which is probably where I inherited it. He coached our team for several seasons and had great fun with it. That might be the future for me as well, and I am excited to it!"

Top Division Predictions

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea may have to be patient for Cole Palmer's comeback from fitness issues but their offense is now stronger with Pedro and Liam Delap both returned to fitness.

In my opinion this game will be fairly tight, though. Burnley are disciplined and their sole home defeats so far have been against the Reds and Arsenal.

It suggests a 1-1 draw to me, but I am actually going to choose Chelsea to win narrowly for what would be their third Premier League win in a row.

Sutton's prediction: 1-2

Olly's prediction: Chelsea will be too strong. 1-3

Artificial intelligence's prediction: 0-2

The Cherries have been defeated in their past two matches - albeit both of them were on the road - but they got absolutely spanked by Aston Villa last time out which shocked me.

On the other hand, West Ham won back-to-back victories before the international break and, although both of those fixtures were at home, they do look competitive again.

West Ham's only away win this campaign came at Nottingham Forest in the summer, when West Ham boss Nuno was previously Forest coach.

So, what on earth do I predict here - will it be West Ham extending their streak under Nuno, or the home side bouncing back?

I will choose Bournemouth, because I believe what occurred against Villa was a anomaly.

The pundit's forecast: 2-0

Olly's outlook: Bournemouth are doing well but the visitors have picked up under Nuno. 2-2

AI's prediction: 1-1

Brentford were seen as one of the frontrunners for relegation before the season began, but they have impressed a several observers under their manager and are in fine fettle with three wins in their past four games.

My son advised me to get Bees forward Igor Thiago in my fantasy soccer team a few weeks back and, unfortunately, I didn't listen.

The forward will probably score again on Saturday but I am still not going to select him or support the away side at Brighton's ground.

They have not had much success on the road this term, and Brighton are consistently strong at their stadium. The visitors will try to attack on the break but I think the home manager's side pose much more of a danger.

The analyst's prediction: 2-1

Olly's prediction: It could be a match where you expect there is going to be a many goals but it in reality turns out to be quite close. 1-1

AI's outcome: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a massive game for Fulham, who have suffered defeat in five of their past six matches.

They have got lots of quality in their team but it still seems like they could be sucked into a drop zone fight.

Regarding Sunderland, indeed they are the surprise package of the top flight campaign so far.

Their display in the 2-2 tie with Arsenal last time out was superb. We've not seen any other team rough up the Gunners like that this season, and they were more than a match for them.

The logical choice would be to support the visitors here, because they are obviously able of roughing the hosts up too and, the previous occasion they were in west London, they defeated the Blues at the end of last month.

But I am not going to choose that. Instead, I really need to carry on going against the away team with my forecasts. I am taking a lot of credit for their positive outcomes because they evidently love to prove me wrong.

Considering the home side's home form, the only side they have lost to is the league leaders. Their manager's team will be extremely desperate for a good result, so I am going to say they will pick up three much-needed points.

The expert's forecast: 1-0

The guest's choice: I know the visitors are doing well and additionally that the hosts are on a bad run... but they have nonetheless been respectable at Craven Cottage this campaign. 2-0

The algorithm's prediction: 2-0

It is a hard one to call. The Reds have lost seven of their last ten games in all competitions, but might they be one of the sides who benefit from the {international break|
