Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:

  • Every squad has just 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers looking for different methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Player Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
